My guest for this episode is Susanne Navas. Susanne is a Certified Life Coach, Certified Triathlon Coach, Certified Yoga Instructor, and she works part-time at a holistic treatment center for people in recovery from alcohol and other drug addiction. Susanne is an all-around badass with a heart to teach and help others succeed in life.
Susanne and I talk about how she got her start running and how that led to her doing the NYC half marathon, a triathlon (where she came in 3rd place in her age group at age 35), an Ironman, and then a marathon.
Susanne also shares her love for helping others which started back in her teens and her passion for learning and teaching. She was a volunteer for teen moms, teaching them positive parenting skills so they could stay in school. She started a triathlon camp through the Achieve Program which coaches underserved kids in triathlon for six weeks.
Susanne shares a story of how she was attacked by a dog on a run one day and how that experience led her emotionally unsettled. She discovered after teaching yoga one day that yoga calmed her during this traumatic time. Susanne then became intrigued with trauma-sensitive yoga and talked about her program she developed called POGA, a combination of yoga and pilates. The mind-body connection and not comparing ourselves to others is something Susanne shares and offers.
Susanne also talks about her decision to quit drinking and the "slippery slope" that drinking causes and how sobriety looks and feels in her life today.
Susanne is inspiring and encouraging and living her (mid) life to the fullest!
